Description

French Apple Cake is a classic dessert that pairs tart apples with a tender, buttery rum-infused cake. Perfect for dessert, a cozy snack, or even breakfast, this versatile recipe uses simple ingredients and delivers a delicately flavored treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons dark rum (or milk, apple cider, or apple juice)
  • 2 large baking apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar: Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add Eggs and Flavorings: Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla and rum (or substitute).
  • Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Incorporate Apples: Fold in the chopped apples evenly.
  • Bake: Pour batter into the pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
