Ingredients:
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2.5 cups all-purpose flour
1.5 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until smooth. Beat in the egg, and then mix in the molasses.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
Blend the dry ingredients into the molasses mixture.
Stir in the hot water. Pour into the prepared pan.
Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Serve warm and enjoy the comforting flavors of old-fashioned gingerbread!
