BUTTER BISCUITS

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour, packed (if using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt)

1 tablespoon baking powder (leave out if using self-rising flour)

½ teaspoon salt (leave out if using self-rising flour)

½ cup salted butter, cut into small pieces (if using unsalted, add ¼ teaspoon more salt than above)

1 cup milk (regular or buttermilk)

Instructions:

Preheat Oven:

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. If you’re using self-rising flour, omit the baking powder and salt.

Incorporate Butter:

Add the small pieces of butter to the dry ingredients. Using your hands or a pastry blender, combine the flour mixture and butter until the butter is pea-sized, and the mixture becomes crumbly.

Add Milk:

Pour in the milk (either regular or buttermilk) and stir with a wooden spoon until well incorporated. Be cautious not to overmix; just combine until the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Roll Out the Dough:

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Roll out the dough to about ¾ inch thickness.

Cut Out Biscuits:

Using a biscuit cutter or a cookie cutter, cut out biscuits from the rolled dough. Place each biscuit onto an ungreased cookie sheet or an iron skillet. Ensure that the biscuits are touching each other for a higher rise during baking.

Bake:

Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Serve:

Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve these buttery delights warm and enjoy them on their own or with your favorite spreads like butter, jam, or honey.
