Luxurious Black Velvet Cake with a Deep Chocolate Flavor and Rich, Moist Texture
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (Dutch-processed for deeper color)
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 tbsp black gel food coloring (optional, for dramatic color)
1 cup hot coffee or boiling water
1 tbsp vanilla extract
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and black food coloring, if using. Mix until smooth.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Pour in the hot coffee and vanilla extract, mixing gently until batter is smooth.
Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy.
Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer, stack the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
