These soft and sweet Christmas cookies are a holiday tradition that never disappoints. Perfect for decorating with your favorite festive sprinkles or icing, they’re a family favorite that everyone looks forward to every year.
Ingredients:
3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 cup margarine, softened
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions:
Prep the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the white sugar and margarine with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the first egg, followed by the second egg and vanilla extract. Gradually add the flour mixture, stirring until the dough is just combined.
Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to firm up.
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease two cookie sheets.
Roll and Cut the Cookies: On a clean, floured surface, roll out the dough to ¼-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out festive shapes, then arrange them on the prepared cookie sheets. Gather any scraps and repeat.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden. Allow them to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorate and Serve: Once cooled, decorate the cookies as desired with icing, sprinkles, or enjoy them plain.
