Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
4 to 6 tablespoons Lipton Onion Soup Mix
2 1/2 tablespoons butter
2 large onions, thinly sliced
A pinch of thyme
3/4 cup water (adjust as needed)
1 tablespoon brandy or Sherry (optional, but recommended)
4 to 8 ounces Swiss or Provolone cheese
4 buns, butter or oil for brushing
Directions:
Preparation: Mix ground beef with onion soup mix and let it rest. Meanwhile, in a skillet, melt butter and
add onions, thyme, and water. Cover and simmer until onions are tender. Remove the lid, continue
cooking until onions are caramelized, adding water as needed. Finish with a splash of brandy or Sherry.
Cooking Burgers: Shape the beef mixture into burgers, creating a dent on the top for even cooking.
Cook in a skillet or grill, adding caramelized onions and cheese during the last few minutes of cooking.
Ensure the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your preferred doneness.
Serving: Brush buns with butter or oil and toast. Serve burgers on the toasted buns with extra
caramelized onions if desired.
