Ingredients:
Cake Layer:
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Topping Layer:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/4 cups hot water (very hot, not boiling)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Lightly grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking dish.
Make the cake batter:
In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan.
Add the topping:
Mix brown sugar and cocoa powder in a small bowl.
Sprinkle evenly over the batter.
DO NOT STIR.
Pour hot water slowly over the top (yes, really).
Again, DO NOT STIR.
Bake for 35–40 minutes.
The top will look cakey, but if you scoop into it—hello, molten fudge sauce underneath!
Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. 😍
