Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Beat the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and creamy. Add in vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the flour and salt until the dough comes together. If the dough is crumbly, knead gently with your hands.
- Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into heart shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on the baking sheets about 1 inch apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are just barely golden.
- Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cool, decorate with royal icing, sprinkles, or melted chocolate. Let the decorations set before serving.
