Description

This Sweet Onion and Herb Quiche is a comforting and flavorful dish that combines caramelized sweet onions, fresh herbs, and a creamy egg filling, all nestled in a flaky pie crust.

Ingredients

1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

2 tablespoons butter

2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced

1 teaspoon olive oil

4 large eggs

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese

1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch tart or pie pan and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, or until the onions are soft and caramelized. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, and pepper. Stir in the Gruyère cheese, thyme, and parsley.
  5. Add the caramelized onions to the egg mixture and stir to combine.
  6. Pour the egg and onion mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set in the center and lightly browned on top.
  8. Let the quiche cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a heartier version, add cooked bacon or sausage to the quiche mixture.

Swap Gruyère cheese for cheddar, mozzarella, or feta for a different twist.

Incorporate vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers for extra flavor.

To make it dairy-free, use plant-based milk and cream and choose dairy-free cheese options.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

You can freeze the quiche for up to 3 months. Reheat by baking from frozen or thawing overnight in the refrigerator.
