Description
This super easy caramel sauce is rich, smooth, and perfect for drizzling over desserts like ice cream, pancakes, and more. Made with just a handful of ingredients and ready in 10 minutes, it’s the perfect indulgent treat.
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the brown sugar and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly until the sugar has fully dissolved.
- Slowly add the heavy cream while stirring, and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Let the sauce cool for a few minutes before serving. It will thicken as it cools down.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Reheat gently before using.
If you want a thicker sauce, cook it for a bit longer before removing from heat.
For a salted caramel version, add a pinch of sea salt while cooking.
For a dairy-free version, swap the butter for vegan butter and the heavy cream for coconut cream.
