Ingredients

For the Banana Bread:

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas with the melted butter. Stir in the vanilla extract and egg until well combined.

  • Add Sugars and Dry Ingredients: Mix in the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Then, add the baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and cinnamon, stirring until combined.

  • Add Flour: Gently fold in the flour until just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

  • Prepare Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the topping.

  • Assemble: Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter. Add the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the surface.

  • Bake: Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • You can add nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra crunch or chocolate chips for a sweeter touch.
  • For a vegan version, substitute the egg with a flaxseed egg and use dairy-free butter.
  • Swap the all-purpose flour for a gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free option.
