Description

Savory Golden Onion Butter Jasmine Rice is a fragrant side dish combining caramelized onions and buttery jasmine rice. Perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions, this recipe offers rich flavors with simple, pantry-friendly ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups jasmine rice, rinsed
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Caramelize the Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown (20-25 minutes).
  • Prepare the Rice: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic, cooking until fragrant (1 minute).
  • Combine Ingredients: Stir in rinsed rice until coated with the butter.
  • Cook: Add chicken broth, caramelized onions, salt, pepper, and turmeric. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, until the liquid is absorbed.
  • Rest: Let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes off heat.
  • Serve: Fluff with a fork, garnish with parsley, and serve.

Notes

  • Substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth for a vegetarian option.
  • Rinsing the rice removes excess starch, keeping it fluffy.
  • For additional aroma, add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary during cooking.
