Description

A comforting breakfast or brunch dish, this Quiche with Sausage Gravy combines creamy quiche with rich, flavorful sausage gravy. Perfect for a family gathering or special occasion, this savory recipe is packed with hearty ingredients like sausage, eggs, and a creamy gravy topping.

Ingredients

For the Quiche:

  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 Vidalia onion, finely diced
  • 24 oz ground breakfast sausage
  • 1 pie crust dough (deep dish frozen pie shell recommended)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2/3 of the cooked sausage and onion mixture

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • Remaining 1/3 of the cooked sausage and onion mixture
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the sausage mixture: Preheat a pan over medium heat and sauté onions in canola oil until transparent. Add the ground sausage and cook until browned. Set aside.

  • Prepare the quiche: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep dish pie pan and fit the pie crust into it.

  • Make the egg mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Stir in 2/3 of the sausage and onion mixture.

  • Assemble the quiche: Pour the egg mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  • Bake the quiche: Bake the quiche for 40-45 minutes, or until the center is set and no longer jiggles.

  • Make the sausage gravy: While the quiche is baking, heat the remaining sausage mixture in a pan. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly add the milk while stirring constantly. Cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Serve: Once the quiche is done, remove from the oven and top with the hot sausage gravy. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Cheese Options: Add shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese to the egg mixture for extra richness.
  • Gluten-Free: For a gluten-free version, make it crustless or use a gluten-free pie crust.
  • Veggies: Feel free to add spinach, bell peppers, or mushrooms to the quiche for extra flavor.
  • Storage/Reheating: Leftover quiche can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat at 350°F until heated through. Reheat sausage gravy on the stovetop or in the microwave.
