Description

This Overnight Crème Brûlée French Toast is an indulgent breakfast or brunch dish made by soaking brioche in a decadent custard and topped with a caramelized brown sugar glaze. Perfect for special occasions, this make-ahead recipe allows you to enjoy a gourmet meal with minimal morning prep time. The sweet, buttery custard and golden caramelized topping will have everyone coming back for seconds!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar (tightly packed)
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 9 slices of brioche, challah, or thick country bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring until the mixture is smooth and free of graininess.
  • Pour the brown sugar mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Arrange the slices of bread on top of the sugar mixture, trimming them to fit if necessary.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are fully soaked. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) in the morning. Bake for 35 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and puffed.
  • Serve with fresh berries and whipped cream if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can add cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard for extra flavor.
  • If desired, swap the bread for a French baguette or any hearty bread that absorbs the custard without falling apart.
  • Topping options include fresh berries or a drizzle of maple syrup.
