Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- For the Topping:
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
- Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- Mix flour, softened butter, and salt in a bowl. Add the yeast mixture and knead by hand or with a mixer for 8–10 minutes until elastic.
- First Rise:
- Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Shape Breadsticks:
- Divide dough into 12–14 pieces, rolling each into a 6–7 inch rope. Arrange on a baking sheet.
- Second Rise:
- Cover breadsticks and let rise for 20–30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake breadsticks for 12–15 minutes until golden.
- Prepare the Topping:
- Melt butter and mix in garlic powder and salt. Brush over hot breadsticks immediately after baking.
