Description

These Maryland Crab Cakes are a flavorful and light take on the classic dish, featuring lump crab meat, Old Bay seasoning, and a crispy, golden exterior. Perfect as an appetizer or main course, these easy-to-make baked crab cakes will impress your guests with their delicate texture and savory taste.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, sliced
  • 1 pound lump crab meat
  • 1 cup saltine crackers, crushed
  • Lemon wedges and remoulade sauce for serving (optional)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning.
  2. Stir in the sliced green onions.
  3. Gently fold in the crab meat and cracker crumbs, careful not to break the crab into small pieces.
  4. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour to firm it up.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and coat a sheet pan with cooking spray.
  6. Form the crab mixture into 8 equal-sized patties, about 1/3 cup each, and place them on the prepared sheet pan.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the crab cakes are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and remoulade sauce, if desired.

Notes

  • For a twist, try combining shrimp with crab for a seafood blend.
  • Add vegetables like sautéed onions, garlic, or bell peppers for extra flavor.
  • Experiment with smoked paprika or cayenne for added heat.
