Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese (optional)

For the Garlic Bread:

  • 4 hoagie rolls or large hamburger buns
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the Beef:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Sauté Aromatics:
    • Add onion and garlic; cook for 3–4 minutes until onions are softened.
  • Prepare Sloppy Joe Sauce:
    • Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Prepare Garlic Bread:
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Combine butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, parsley, and Parmesan in a bowl.
    • Spread mixture on split hoagie rolls and bake on a lined sheet for 5–7 minutes, until golden.
  • Assemble Sandwiches:
    • Spoon sloppy joe mixture onto garlic bread halves. Add cheese if desired and broil for 1–2 minutes.
    • Top with the other garlic bread half and serve hot.
