Description

Funnel Cake Bites are quick and easy bite-sized treats with a crispy golden exterior and soft, fluffy interior, dusted with powdered sugar. These mini desserts capture the classic fairground flavor, perfect for family gatherings or spontaneous indulgences.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Batter:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
    • In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in milk and vanilla extract. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  • Heat the Oil:
    • Pour 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat to 350°F (175°C). Test by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the top.
  • Fry the Bites:
    • Using a spoon or cookie scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown.
  • Drain and Dust:
    • Remove bites with a slotted spoon, placing them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm.
  • Serve:
    • Enjoy warm with or without dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or fruit preserves.

Notes

  • For variations, try cinnamon sugar dusting, melted chocolate drizzle, or fresh fruit toppings.
  • Fry in batches to maintain oil temperature and achieve consistent crispiness.
  • Best served immediately, but leftovers can be reheated in an oven for crispiness.
