Ingredients
- 3 cups of flour
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 7 grams of baker’s yeast
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- Oil for frying
- ½ tablespoon cinnamon powder
Instructions
- Place the yeast in a bowl and add lukewarm water to dissolve it.
- Add the flour and mix well. The best method is using a stand mixer or a bread machine, but you can also knead by hand.
- Add the milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and egg, then stir in the salt. Knead the dough for 3 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Add the soft butter and knead until shiny.
- Shape the dough into a ball, cover with cling film, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces, roll into balls, and shape them into braids or other desired forms.
- Place the shaped dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the donuts for 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Once fried, drain on paper towels and roll in a cinnamon-sugar mixture (3 tablespoons of sugar and ½ tablespoon cinnamon). Alternatively, you can use frosting.
Notes
- If making the dough ahead of time, refrigerate overnight and allow it to come to room temperature before proceeding.
- You can freeze the dough for up to a month; thaw in the fridge overnight.
- Experiment with different toppings like nutmeg or cardamom for extra flavor.
