Description

Dove sugar cookies are soft, buttery, and elegantly decorated with royal icing and edible silver pearls. Perfect for weddings, holidays, and special occasions, these delicate cookies have a hint of vanilla and optional almond extract for a classic flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • White royal icing
  • Edible silver pearls or sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven – Set oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients – In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar – Beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add Wet Ingredients – Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
  • Combine Dough – Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Roll and Cut – Roll dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. Use a dove-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
  • Bake – Arrange cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely.
  • Decorate – Once cooled, decorate with white royal icing and add edible silver pearls or sprinkles.

Notes

  • For firmer dough: Chill for 30 minutes before rolling.
  • For softer cookies: Add 1 teaspoon cornstarch to the dry ingredients.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze undecorated cookies for up to 3 months.
