Coquito is a rich and creamy Puerto Rican holiday drink, often called Puerto Rican eggnog. Made with coconut milk, cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and warm spices, this festive beverage is smooth, velvety, and can be spiked with rum for extra warmth. Whether served at Christmas gatherings or bottled for gifting, Coquito is a must-have treat that brings tropical flavors to your holiday celebrations.
Ingredients
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 can (15 oz) cream of coconut
- 1 can (13.5 oz) coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for garnish)
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 to 1½ cups white rum (optional, adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Blend Ingredients – In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, cream of coconut, coconut milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Blend until smooth and fully combined.
- Add Rum (Optional) – If using rum, add it to the blender and pulse a few times to mix.
- Chill – Pour the Coquito into a large pitcher or airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld.
- Serve – Shake or stir before serving. Pour into small glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Notes
- For extra thickness, add ½ cup coconut cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- For an eggnog-inspired version, blend in one or two egg yolks.
- A dairy-free version can be made using dairy-free condensed and evaporated milk.
- Store Coquito in the fridge for up to 5 days and shake before serving.
