Description

Warm up with this classic Irish Coffee recipe, a perfect blend of strong coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, rich brown sugar, and a layer of silky cream. This traditional Irish drink is ideal for cozy nights, special occasions, or an after-dinner treat. Learn how to make authentic Irish Coffee with simple ingredients and expert tips for the perfect float!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hot brewed coffee
  • 1 ½ oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson, Bushmills, or Tullamore D.E.W.)
  • 12 tsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 oz heavy cream (lightly whipped or unwhipped)

Instructions

  • Prepare the glass – Fill an Irish Coffee glass with hot water to preheat it, then discard the water.
  • Dissolve the sugar – Add brown sugar to the warmed glass, then pour in the hot brewed coffee. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Add whiskey – Pour in the Irish whiskey and stir to combine.
  • Float the cream – Gently pour the heavy cream over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the coffee.
  • Serve and enjoy – Do not stir! Sip the coffee through the cream for an authentic experience.

Notes

  • For the best float: Use lightly whipped heavy cream and pour it slowly over a spoon.
  • Adjust sweetness: Add more or less sugar to taste.
  • Best coffee to use: Medium to dark roast, freshly brewed.
  • Serving glass: A heatproof glass mug with a handle is ideal.
