Description

A rich, moist, and decadent chocolate cake that’s simple to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, stirring constantly. The batter will be thin, but that’s perfectly fine.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

You can add chocolate chips to the batter for extra gooeyness.

Swap vegetable oil for butter for a slightly different texture and flavor.

Make a decadent frosting like cream cheese or chocolate buttercream to go on top.

For an extra rich, deep chocolate flavor, add a splash of coffee to the batter.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.

This cake can be frozen for up to 3 months.
