Description

Indulge in the classic flavors of Chicken Cordon Bleu with Swiss Cheese Sauce, featuring crispy breaded chicken rolled with melted Swiss cheese, topped with a rich, creamy cheese sauce. Perfect for special dinners or cozy nights in, this recipe is a delightful blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

For the Swiss Cheese Sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Chicken: Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Add Filling: Place a slice of ham and Swiss cheese on each chicken breast, roll tightly, and secure with toothpicks.
  • Bread the Chicken: Coat chicken rolls in flour, dip in beaten eggs, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  • Cook the Chicken: Sear rolls in a skillet with vegetable oil for 3-4 minutes per side, then transfer to the baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Prepare the Sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in heavy cream, add shredded Swiss cheese and garlic powder, and stir until smooth. Season to taste.
  • Serve: Remove toothpicks, plate the chicken, and drizzle with Swiss cheese sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use Panko breadcrumbs.
  • Substitute Swiss cheese with provolone or cheddar for a new twist.
  • Chill assembled rolls before cooking to prevent cheese leakage.
