Ingredients

  • For the Cookies
    • Butter (softened)
    • Vegetable oil
    • Granulated sugar
    • Powdered sugar
    • Large eggs (room temperature)
    • Almond extract
    • All-purpose flour
    • Baking soda
    • Cream of tartar
    • Salt
  • For the Glaze
    • Powdered sugar
    • Maraschino cherry juice
    • Almond extract
  • Optional Garnish
    • Chopped maraschino cherries
    • Slivered almonds

Instructions

  • Make the Dough
    • Cream butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until fluffy.
    • Mix in eggs (one at a time) and almond extract.
    • Gradually add flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  • Chill the Dough
    • Cover dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Bake the Cookies
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on lined baking sheets.
    • Bake for 8–10 minutes, cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Prepare the Glaze
    • Combine powdered sugar, maraschino cherry juice, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Decorate
    • Spread or drizzle glaze over cooled cookies. Garnish with cherries or almonds.
