Description
This Brown Sugar Caramel Sauce is a rich, velvety sauce with a deep, warm caramel flavor. Made with brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream, it’s perfect for drizzling over ice cream, cakes, pancakes, or simply enjoying on its own. Easy to make and irresistible!
Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, for added depth of flavor)
Instructions
- Melt the Brown Sugar and Butter:
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and butter. Stir continuously until the butter is melted and the sugar has fully dissolved into a smooth syrup. - Add the Heavy Cream:
Carefully add the heavy cream to the saucepan. The mixture may bubble up, so stir constantly to incorporate the cream into the sauce. - Simmer the Sauce:
Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. The sauce will thicken slightly. For a thicker sauce, cook longer, but avoid overcooking. - Stir in Vanilla and Salt:
Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt (if using) to enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness. - Cool and Serve:
Let the sauce cool slightly before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools. Drizzle over desserts like ice cream, brownies, or pancakes. - Storage:
Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Reheat by microwaving for 20-30 seconds or warming over low heat on the stovetop.
Notes
- If you prefer a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar.
- The sauce thickens as it cools, so make sure to reheat it before using if it becomes too thick.
- Add the optional salt for a more complex flavor profile.
