Description

Savor the comforting flavors of bratwurst with mushroom gravy—a hearty dish combining juicy sausages with a rich, savory mushroom gravy. Perfect for family dinners, Oktoberfest celebrations, or any cozy occasion.

Ingredients

For the Bratwurst:

  • 46 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup beer or water

For the Mushroom Gravy:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms (cremini, button, or your choice), sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bratwurst:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Brown bratwurst on all sides (2-3 minutes per side).
    • Add beer or water, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Remove bratwurst and set aside.
  • Make the Mushroom Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Sauté onion and garlic for 3-4 minutes.
    • Add mushrooms; cook for 5-6 minutes until browned.
    • Sprinkle flour, stir, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth and simmer until thickened (3-4 minutes).
    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and heavy cream (if using). Season with salt and pepper.
  • Combine:
    • Return bratwurst to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and garnish with parsley.
    • Serve with mashed potatoes, noodles, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free flour and bratwurst.
  • For extra flavor, try adding fresh thyme or rosemary to the gravy.
  • Beer enhances the depth of flavor, but water can be used for a lighter taste.
