Description

Indulge in a tender and flavorful braised corned beef brisket that’s perfect for special occasions or a comforting family dinner. This recipe transforms traditional boiled corned beef into a succulent roast, seared to perfection and slow-cooked with aromatic onions and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 1 (5-pound) corned beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon browning sauce (such as Kitchen Bouquet)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Water as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 275°F (135°C).
  2. Prepare the Brisket: Rinse the corned beef brisket under cold water and pat dry. Brush the entire brisket with browning sauce.
  3. Sear the Brisket: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until browned, approximately 5 minutes per side.
  4. Assemble for Braising: Place the seared brisket on a rack inside a roasting pan. Top with sliced onions and garlic. Pour beef broth over the brisket, then add enough water to reach the top of the roasting rack.
  5. Braise: Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 6 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  6. Rest and Serve: Once done, let the brisket rest for a few minutes before slicing against the grain. Serve with your choice of sides.

Notes

  • Glazed Finish: For a sweet and tangy twist, brush the brisket with a mixture of brown sugar and mustard during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Vegetable Additions: Add carrots, potatoes, and cabbage during the last hour of cooking for a complete one-pot meal.
