Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook Sausage:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and crumbled. Do not drain the grease.
  • Make Gravy:
    • Sprinkle flour over cooked sausage, stirring to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly.
    • Simmer until gravy thickens, then season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic and onion powder.
  • Assemble Casserole:
    • Cut biscuit dough into quarters.
    • Spread half of the biscuit pieces evenly in the baking dish.
    • Pour sausage gravy over the biscuits.
    • Top with remaining biscuit pieces and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  • Bake:
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown and casserole is bubbly.
  • Serve:
    • Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try using spicy sausage or adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the gravy.
