Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 can (16.3 ounces) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in milk and bring to a simmer. Stir until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and mix with the gravy. Set aside.
  • Cut the biscuit dough into quarters and arrange the pieces in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Pour the sausage gravy over the biscuits, covering them evenly.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until biscuits are golden and the casserole is bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Swap ground sausage for turkey sausage for a different flavor.
  • Add sautéed vegetables like onions or bell peppers for extra texture.
  • Try different cheeses such as mozzarella or Monterey Jack for a customized flavor.
