Ingredients
- Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter (cubed)
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- Filling:
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 2 medium potatoes (peeled and diced)
- 1 medium carrot (diced)
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 1/2 cup frozen peas (optional)
- 1 bouillon cube
- 1/2 tsp thyme
- 1/2 tsp curry powder
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add cubed butter and cut into the mixture until crumbly.
- Add 1 beaten egg and cold water, mix to form dough.
- Wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Make the Filling:
- Heat vegetable oil and sauté onions until soft.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in potatoes, carrots, peas, bouillon cube, thyme, curry powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cook until vegetables are tender. Cool completely.
- Assemble the Meat Pies:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
- Place filling in the center, fold over, and crimp edges with a fork.
- Bake the Pies:
- Arrange pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
