Ingredients

  • Dough:
    • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 cup cold unsalted butter (cubed)
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/4 cup cold water
    • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Filling:
    • 1/2 lb ground beef
    • 2 medium potatoes (peeled and diced)
    • 1 medium carrot (diced)
    • 1 small onion (chopped)
    • 1/2 cup frozen peas (optional)
    • 1 bouillon cube
    • 1/2 tsp thyme
    • 1/2 tsp curry powder
    • Salt and pepper (to taste)
    • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
    • Add cubed butter and cut into the mixture until crumbly.
    • Add 1 beaten egg and cold water, mix to form dough.
    • Wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Make the Filling:
    • Heat vegetable oil and sauté onions until soft.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned.
    • Stir in potatoes, carrots, peas, bouillon cube, thyme, curry powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Cook until vegetables are tender. Cool completely.
  • Assemble the Meat Pies:
    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into circles.
    • Place filling in the center, fold over, and crimp edges with a fork.
  • Bake the Pies:
    • Arrange pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Brush with egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
