Description

Apple butter cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with warm fall flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, and rich apple butter. These cozy cookies are easy to make and perfect for autumn, holidays, or anytime you crave a comforting treat.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup apple butter
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and apple butter; mix well.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Combine: Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Shape & Bake: Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  • Cool: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • (Optional Glaze): Drizzle with a simple cinnamon glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon.

Notes

  • For a crunch, add ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • For extra spice, increase cinnamon or nutmeg.
  • Chill dough for 30 minutes if cookies spread too much.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
