This classic applesauce cake is moist, naturally sweetened, and spiced with warm cinnamon, making it a perfect healthier treat. Dairy-free and versatile, enjoy it for breakfast, snacking, or dessert. Simple to prepare with basic pantry ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup unrefined sugar (coconut or brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (or extra applesauce for oil-free)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose or spelt flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine applesauce, sugar, oil (or extra applesauce), and vanilla until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Avoid overmixing.
  • Pour batter into the pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool completely before slicing. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze.
